FEMA COVID-19 Update
Key Messages
- April 29 marked the 100th day of the Biden presidency. In those 100 days, FEMA has been proud to:
- Provide support to more than 1,700 community vaccination centers.
- Prioritize equitable outcomes for everyone seeking vaccinations.
- Leverage partnerships at all levels of government, and non-profit and private sectors to deliver funeral assistance to those who lost a loved one to COVID-19.
- Continue to provide support to disaster survivors and their communities.
- Working with state governments, FEMA will continue to provide federal support to community vaccination centers, including supplemental vaccine allocation to pilot sites.
- There are 31 active or temporarily closed federal community vaccination center pilot sites and 58 mobile pop-up sites in 26 states. Additionally, there are 11 mobile vaccination units deployed to support states and the Indian Health Service. The federal community vaccination center pilot sites have administered more than 4.2 million vaccinations. The mobile units have delivered more than 24,000 vaccines.
- Although FEMA transitioned management of the federal community vaccination center pilot sites in Oakland, California; Brooklyn and Queens, New York; and Dallas and Houston, Texas to the states, the agency continues to support those sites with federal personnel.
- This week, federal community vaccination center pilot sites opened in Henderson and London, Kentucky.
- 11 mobile vaccination units are deployed to Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oregon. Two units are supporting the Indian Health Services mission to vaccinate tribal communities across the Great Plains.
- On April 12, FEMA began processing applications for funeral assistance and will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020 under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
- Applicants may apply by calling 844-684-6333 (TTY: 800-462-7585) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Please note, phone calls from FEMA may come from an unidentified number.
- Multilingual services are available. The assistance line has helped applicants in nearly 40 languages.
- It is important that FEMA is able to contact applicants, so callers should ensure their contact information is correct. Callers who use a relay service, videophone or captioned telephones should provide their specific number assigned to that service.
- As of April 30, FEMA has received more than 154,000 funeral assistance applications and has awarded more than $2.1 million.
Please note: further information and data on Vaccine Distribution is available in the attachment.
